ICF friends will note with sadness the passing or an inspirational leader and colleague, Professor Morio Chen. With his roots deeply embedded in scouting and a strong commitment to camping, Morio represented Taiwan camping on the international scene. In collaboration with Professor Fumio Morooka, then President of the Asia Oceania Camping Fellowship, Morio and his team of enthusiastic committee members hosted the 3rd Asia Oceania Camping Congress in Taipei in 2009.
In addition to inspiring sessions at the local university, delegates participated in a host of cultural activities including a trip to a school to enjoy an indigenous dance troupe, local night markets, fine food, local campgrounds and nearby nature preserves. Handcrafts – particularly with natural materials were a distinctive feature of the event and Morio’s touch and love of the outdoors came through the entire event.
